EXTERIOR SURFACE PREPARATION & PAINTING SPECIFICATIONS FOR EXTERIOR PREMIUN PAINT
MASONRY SURFACES
- Pressure clean all surfaces to be painted with a minimum of 2500 psi.
- Checked or peeling areas must be pressure cleaned using a rotating zero tip attachment, until all loose paint and scale is removed.
- Apply Clorox or chlorine diluted 5:1 or 10:1, respectively, to all previously mildewed surfaces.
- Thoroughly rinse all surfaces to remove chlorine and remaining debris.
- Patching, Caulking, and Feather Edging
- After pressure cleaning procedures are complete allow surfaces a minimum of 24 hours dry time before patching and caulking.
- Patch all hairline cracks and caulk any seams with Acrylux 100% acrylic caulk or masonry patch (see crack repair detail for gap width guidelines).
- Scrape all areas where paint has peeled until all remaining paint is well adhered.
- All areas where paint has peeled (leaving a slight ridge) must be feathered with Acrylux brush grade masonry patch.
- Repair larger seams or cracks with NP1 urethane sealant (or equivalent). See crack repair detail for guidelines.
- After the patching and caulking procedures are complete, allow all products to dry for the recommended periods.
- Apply one coat of AC64 Sealer to all masonry surfaces. Sealer must be applied so that complete coverage is achieved.
- Apply one coat of XIM 400W rust inhibitive primer to all steel railings.
- Primer may be applied by brush, roller, or spray. Primer should be applied uniformly so that complete coverage is achieved.
- Apply two finish coats of Acrylux 100% Acrylic Exterior Premium to all primed surfaces. Paint must be applied at a rate of 200 ft²/gal as to achieve 5 wet mils. Paint may be applied wet on wet by spray and backroll and respray.
- Paint may be applied by brush, roller and spray – straight from the container.
- Paint must be applied according to label instructions.
WOOD
- Pressure clean all wood surfaces to be painted with a minimum of 2500 psi. Special care must be taken in order not to splinter the wood.
- Apply Clorox or chlorine diluted 5:1 or 10:1, respectively, to all previously mildewed surfaces.
- Thoroughly rinse all surfaces to remove chlorine and remaining debris.
- Patching, Caulking, and Feather Edging
- After pressure cleaning procedures are complete allow surfaces a minimum of 24 hours dry time before patching and caulking.
- Caulk all seams with Acrylux 100% acrylic caulk (see crack repair detail for gap width guidelines).
- Scrape all areas where paint has peeled until all remaining paint is well adhered.
- All areas where paint has peeled (leaving a slight ridge) must be feathered with 80 to 100 grit sandpaper.
- After the patching and caulking procedures are complete, allow all products to dry for the recommended periods.
- Apply one coat of INSL-X Aqua Lock Primer to all bare wood. Primer must be applied so that complete coverage is achieved.
- Staining wood must be primed with INSL-X Prime Lock Primer.
- Primer may be applied by brush, roller, or spray. Primer should be applied uniformly so that complete coverage is achieved.
- Apply a finish coat of Acrylux 100% Acrylic Exterior Premium, 507B Semi-Gloss, or Bruning Silathane to all primed surfaces. Paint must be applied at a rate of 200 ft²/gal as to achieve 5 wet mils. Paint may be applied wet on wet by spray and backroll and respray.

METAL
- Pressure clean all surfaces to be painted with a minimum of 2500 psi.

- Apply Clorox or chlorine diluted 5:1 or 10:1, respectively, to all previously mildewed surfaces.
- Thoroughly rinse all surfaces to remove chlorine and remaining debris.

- After pressure cleaning procedures are complete allow surfaces a minimum of 24 hours dry time before patching and caulking.
- Caulk any seams with Acrylux 100% acrylic caulk or NP1 Urethane Sealant.
- Scrape all areas where paint has peeled until all remaining paint is well adhered.
- All areas where paint has peeled (leaving a slight ridge) must be feathered with 100 grit sandpaper.
- After the patching and caulking procedures are complete, allow all products to dry for the recommended periods.
- Apply one coat of AC64 Sealer to all previously painted metal that shows no signs of rust.
- On rusted metal surfaces apply one coat of XIM 400W rust inhibitive primer.
- Primer may be applied by brush, roller, or spray. Primer should be applied uniformly so that complete coverage is achieved.
- Previously painted aluminum may be spot primed on bare areas and sealed with AC64 sealer.
- Apply a finish coat of Acrylux 100% Acrylic Exterior Premium, 507B Semi-Gloss, or Bruning Silathane to all primed surfaces. Paint must be applied at a rate of 200 ft²/gal as to achieve 5 wet mils. Paint may be applied wet on wet by spray and backroll and respray.

- Paint must be applied according to label instructions.
CRACK PREPARATION AND REPAIR SPECIFICATIONS
A. Gap widths up to 1/64”: Repair cracks using Acrylux fibrated elastomeric patching compound. Patch must overlap cracks by at least ½” on both sides, on top and on the bottom. Patch must be brushed on at a minimum of 10 mils.
B. Gap widths up to 1/16”: Grind open crack surface mechanically and caulk using Acrylux elastomeric caulk. Inject caulk by using tubes and apply finger pressure to achieve proper penetration.
C. Gap widths up to 1/8”: Grind open crack mechanically and caulk using a one-part urethane sealant. Inject sealant by using tubes and apply finger pressure to achieve proper penetration.
D. Gap widths up to ¼”: Grind open crack mechanically and insert appropriate sized backer-rod. Caulk using one-part urethane sealant as described in Section C.
