Our Story

 Acrylux’s Founding - 1959

As a South Florida Roof Painter in the 1950’s, Acrylux founder William Riedesel found it difficult to find a Roof Paint that would last in the harsh Florida climate. Alongside a chemist from Rohm and Haas, William carefully formulated his own ultra durable, mildew resistant, highly reflective roof coating from his South Florida garage. As this was such a regional phenomenon, a product of this caliber was impossible to find anywhere else. Although it was originally intended for personal use, his formulation became so popular amongst other South Florida Roof Painters that he began to sell the product—starting Acrylux.

Acrylux Moves To Its Current Location - 1985

Acrylux soon outgrew its original warehouse located on Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and decided to move to its current location, a larger mixed retail and warehouse space on Powerline Road in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This location allowed Acrylux to become more accessible to the public. For the first time, homeowners from all over the area were able to access contractor grade products at a factory price.

Making a Name

Along with producing the highest quality product in the area, Acrylux quickly became an attraction for its outstanding customer service and family-like atmosphere. Contractors and homeowners were all offered the same quality product and high-level expert advice.

Waterproofing

Throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s, Acrylux gained popularity for its famous waterproofing system. This system contains a cement slurry basecoat, a coat of AC64 surface conditioner, a coat of roof mastic elastomeric waterproofing, and a top coat of Acrylux roof paint. Homeowners were saving thousands of dollars by extending the lifetime of their roof by decades without having to replace the roof.

Roof Paints and Wall Paints

The waterproofing system was not the only thing Acrylux became popular for. Acrylux quickly became known for its long-lasting, highly durable tintable Roof Paint and Exterior Wall Paint.

1990’s and 2000’s

Entering the 1990’s, Acrylux’s current owners and operators, Andew Berry and Tricia Davis took over day to day operations of the business. Andy and Trish quickly expanded Acrylux’s reach with the introduction of many new products along with the improvement of original products. These new products included but were not limited to: Paver Sealing Products, Low-Voc Interior Paints, Elastomeric Paints, and Surface Conditioners.

Introduction to the Paver Sealing Industry: 2005

Acrylux was a paver sealer pioneer in the early 2000’s. Available in Semi-Gloss and Hi-Gloss, Colorback quickly became one of the most popular products in the paver sealing industry.
